Getting to Arts West
By car
Parking around the university campus is very limited so we recommend you arrive by public transport. If you do choose to drive the closest parking is at the Royal Parade Car Park via Royal Parade, located between Genetics Lane and Medical Road (beneath Kenneth Myer Building).
Fees: $12 for 4 hours or $25 for all-day parking.
For more information about parking on campus, click here. Note that Grattan Street is currently closed between Royal Parade and Swanston Street due to contstruction.
Public Transport
Arts West is about a 5-minute walk from stop 11 (University of Melbourne/Royal Parade) on tram route 19. This route travels down Elizabeth Street from the Melbourne CBD.
Alternatively you can catch any of routes 1, 3/3a, 5, 6, 16, 64, 67 or 72 north along Swanston Street from the Melbourne CBD to stop 1 (University of Melbourne/Swanston Street). You can then walk across the campus to Arts West (approximately 10 minutes).
Trams to both sides of the university take around 15-20 minutes from Flinders Street station, although they can be affected by traffic and busy periods. For exact directions and times you can use the PTV Journey Planner.
Tickets (IMPORTANT!)
Melbourne has a free tram zone which covers the CBD but this does not extend as far as the university. To reach the campus by public transport you will need a valid Myki card with enough credit. As they can be busy the routes to the university are often targeted by ticket inspectors. Mykis can be purchased (and topped up) from the SkyBus terminal at the airport, any train station and many convenience stores (including 7-11) but NOT on board trams. Concession cards from other states are not recognised in Victoria so you will need to buy a full-fare Myki. See here for more details on fares. When travelling on trams you must touch on your Myki when you board but not when you get off, on trains and buses cards must be touched when getting on and getting off.
Airport
To get to the Melbourne CBD from Melbourne Tullamarine Airport (MEL), a popular option is to take the SkyBus Melbourne City Express route. This service leaves every 15 minutes and travels directly from the airport to Southern Cross station in the CBD, taking approximately 30 minutes. On arriving in the city there is a SkyBus Link service to various hotels in the CBD. If your hotel is in Docklands or Southbank it might be more convenient to take the SkyBus Docklands Express route. You can purchase SkyBus tickets at the airport terminal but it can be cheaper to pre-book them online, see the SkyBus website for details www.skybus.com.au/fares/.
Another option is to taxi or rideshare (around $60 to the CBD).
