📢 Calling all aspiring bioinformaticians and data enthusiasts! 🧬🔬 Join us for an exhilarating Bioinformatics Analysis Hackathon, an event that combines learning, collaboration, and friendly competition! Whether you’re an undergraduate student studying bioinformatics or simply fascinated by the world of biological data analysis, this hackathon is the perfect platform for you to unleash your potential and explore the exciting field of bioinformatics. You don’t need to have prior experience with bioinformatics data analysis, but coding experience (preferably in R) is recommended.
🗓️ Date: Saturday 23rd September 2023, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
📍 Location: Kens K17 Meeting Room 113, The University of New South Wales
Schedule:
🌟 Introductory Talk: The day will begin with an introductory talk to showcase a few standard bioinformatics data analysis pipelines.
🤝 Group Formation: You (or your pair) will be allocated groups of approximately 5 students with complimentary skills and experiences.
🔬 Hackathon: Each group will choose one of three bioinformatics data analysis challenges to explore (RNA-seq, microbiome and spatial data). With the guidance of experienced mentors, you’ll have the opportunity to learn new skills and apply your creativity to craft innovative visualisations.
🍔 Catered Lunch: Don’t worry about going hungry! We’ve got you covered with a delicious catered lunch to keep your energy levels high throughout the day.
📊 Present Your Findings: After an intensive session of problem-solving, each group will present their findings, using creative visualisations to communicate their results effectively.
🏆 Prizes and Recognition: Top-performing groups will be rewarded with a share of $450 worth of gift cards!
💰 Registration:
To ensure a focused and productive event, the number of attendees is limited to 30. Secure your spot by registering today! A small registration fee of $10 is required, but don’t worry, it will be fully refunded upon attendance at the event. You can register as an individual or as a pair.
